With all of the pressure of bringing healing to others, it’s important not to forget one’s own health. Dr. Tori Hudson speaks on how practicing self-maintenance is just as important for your patients as for yourself.
The Interview:
I think one of the keys to being a very good doctor is to get personal counseling. Be in counseling. Work on my own stuff even if I don’t have any apparent stuff in the moment. It’s almost a hygiene, a psychological hygiene to have a counselor. Just like we wash our hands and we change the oil on our car, there’s maintenance. It’s surprising what just talking to another professional can do in addition to learning how to be with, learning how to connect with, and learning how to have insights and perceptions. You’re learning as you’re getting counseling and therapy yourself.
